Three
Popular Sweater Fabrics Everyone Should Have
A person may be able to
determine the quality of a sweater by the fibers
and the manner in which it is constructed. The
better quality sweaters will be made with
natural fibers. This could include blends as
well. These higher quality sweaters will also be
constructed in a better fashion. You can tell
this quality by the manner in which the neck and
arms are knitted into shape. These types of
sweaters will have much longer lasting wear.
In order to properly care for your sweaters,
store them away from moths in places such as
cedar chests or plastic bags; also fold them,
instead of hanging them.
Cashmere is a high quality knit that is
available in many different qualities and
styles, as well as at various prices. The weight
of the garment may be described as “ply“, with a
two-ply being finer, and a three-ply being a
heavier, or chunkier, knit. Cashmere can usually
be hand washed with a mild soap and then laid
flat to dry, but check the label on the garment
to make sure how to care for it. A cashmere
sweater or other garment will most likely cost
$100 or more.
There are various types of wool. Merino is a
finer fiber that is favorable to those persons
who may need to scratch their skin because of a
reaction to the wool. Alpaca is soft, but
strong; lambswool is a very fine and soft form
of wool; Shetland is normally used for sweaters
that are composed of coarse fibers; and mohair
is a very radiant, long-lasting form of wool.
Wool sweaters must be kept folded to hold their
shape, and should be cleaned according to their
instructions. Some wools can even be machine
washed. Wool garments can often be purchased for
under $100.
Cotton is a very versatile fabric that can be
worn during all seasons and in virtually all
situations. Cotton garments may be worn for
nightwear, casual, work or dressy occasions.
Cottons are available in many different colors,
patterns and styles. The cotton sweaters are
often made with beautifully colored yarns.
Cotton is a great fabric for warmer climates,
rather than wool or cashmere, which would be too
warm.
Cotton fabrics are also easy to care for. Cotton
sweaters can sometimes even be machine washed
and can almost always be washed by hand (check
the label first, of course).
You should be able to find cotton sweaters at
very competitive prices.
